Mega download workaround

Hi bros, took me a while to sit down and type this down. This is my workaround when I hit the download cap for Mega. YMMV.

Sorry admin if this turns out to be hwz topic.

Preamble:
Mega has a download cap for free users. Of course you can pay to become a premium user, which, if you are, you can skip the rest of this post. Otherwise, if you are cheapskate like me, you can continue.

Do note also that there are download apps which can help you get past Mega's cap. You can install that and skip the rest of this post. But if you have trust issues like me, you can continue.

Prerequisites:
1. Setup

• I'm on fibre broadband, and my setup is as follows:

  ONT <-> modem <-> wifi router

• Your setup should be similar to mine, otherwise it may not work for you
• If you have a huawei router to which a wifi router is connected, it is ok
• I use an ASUS wifi router.. for other routers, you can try la..
• If you have a fixed IP (paid option for some of the telcos I think), this won't work for you
• You need to be running windows.. Mac boys (like bro seventynine).. sorry, this won't work for you.

2. Information

• You need to know the router LAN IP
• You need to know the admin credentials for the router (admin username + password)

3. Router setup

• You need to turn on telnet from the router admin page.

4. vb script

• You need to prep a vb script. Go to notepad and paste the following:

  WScript.Sleep 1000
  oShell.Sendkeys "killall -SIGUSR2 udhcpc~"
  WScript.Sleep 1000
  oShell.Sendkeys "killall -SIGUSR1 udhcpc~"
  WScript.Sleep 1000
  oShell.Sendkeys "exit~"
  WScript.Sleep 1000
  oShell.Sendkeys "~"
  WScript.Sleep 1000
  oShell.Sendkeys "quit~"
  Wscript.Quit

• Update the script accordingly by replacing the <...>
• Save the script somewhere convenient, like your desktop. Remember to use the .vbs extension for the filename.

Use:
Say you are downloading from Mega, and you hit the cap. Close the session (or just close the entire browser) and trigger the vb script (double click it). After the script completes, you can open Mega again.
NOTE: do not do something else while running the vb script. The control should remain in the command window while the script is running. (otherwise it won't work la)
NOTE2: this may disrupt current connections. Do take note if you are sharing the broadband with other folks.

After notes:
This works because Mega's cap is tracked by IP. The script asks your router to release your current IP and request for a new one. If Mega changes the way they track, this won't work.

Actually the script copies all your credit card details and sends that to the red cross for an anonymous donation.

But whammy... I'm using a MacBook thus doubt i can run the script

Will still upz you as promised when the earlier queues are done

Oh... I forgot that possibility. Sorry.. PC master race mentality.

I guess you can try dual boot / virtual machines for windows?
I better update the prereqs too.

BTW, I think for fixed IP user maybe possible to renew the modem IP from using some vb script like that too.
I remember if not wrong from the old modem, if go to the modem setup and change the modem MAC number. The ISP will assign another IP number for the new MAC number. If change back to the old MAC number, then the old IP will coming back. I'm don't know about VB script... this have to leave to someone else to exploring... hahaha

As now Sammyboy is now block by MDA, the only way is use those hide proxy.
However, I realise I cannot download clips esp from Mega, can anyone enlighten me on how to get pass that?

Not sure.. since fixed ip is assigned by ISP, I thought they will just tie the IP to your line. May be worth exploring. So far the usual suspects (m1,singtel,sh) provide fix IP as add-ons, so I guess we won't know unless someone tries it.

router IP is the LAN address of your router.. not to be confused with the LAN address of your computer. Not sure if that helped at all.

How do you access the router usually? If you use browser and go through the GUI, that's the IP of the router.

eh... I'm not using proxy... can't help you on that one. For what it's worth, I tried dling mega with tunnelbear VPN on in the past. That worked for me.

As a mac user i think this wont work for me.

For porn, i search for Openload in SBF or in google. Then use their download function on the web - no issues on limits with Openload.

Another workaround is to install "Video DownloadHelper" on the Firefox via plugins. this allows for unlimited downloads and you can choose quality.
