The first-time hawker’s most recent position was as a sous chef in charge of porridge at Peninsula Excelsior Hotel’s Coleman’s Cafe. “We were put on no-pay leave due to the pandemic,” shares chef Oh, who left the hotel in 2020 after working there for a year. “I had to start thinking of what to do next. This was the first time starting my own business after a lifetime of working in restaurants.”

Highlights from his resume include a two-year stint at Resorts World Sentosa, catering porridge to casino patrons, and his longest employment was with the popular but now-defunct Da Wan Zhou – The House of Congee restaurant at Boat Quay from 1992 to 2000.

For something more robust, go for the Black Iberico Pork Congee that comes with succulent swatches of soy-marinated pork. The richer than usual fatty meat adds a dose of heartiness that will satisfy most pork porridge fans.

Smoky Ducky ($9.90) for a spicy change. It featured a portion of pappardelle ricce egg pasta, doused in a tomato-based sauce, and topped with slices of smoked duck, almonds, and cranberries.

The sauce had a light kick, and a tinge of sweetness. As it is tomato-based, it was also rich in umami. Compared to the truffle cream pasta, this was much lighter, yet was just as rich and robust in flavour.



Truffle Shuffle Shrooms ($8.90). It came with a mushroom pappardelle ricce, sauteed mushrooms, poached egg, and a creamy truffle sauce.

The Truffle Shuffle Shrooms truly screamed truffle, without being overpowering. I really appreciated how they did not stinge on the truffle oil, as it made the dish very aromatic and moreish. The mushrooms also added a slight sweetness, and umami notes to the dish.

Meet Jimmy Teo, the chef who is helming Meet 4 Meat’s kitchen. Chef Jimmy has worked in various restaurants and steakhouses in both Australia and Singapore for the past 20 years. Most notably, he was the chef of Wooloomooloo Steakhouse at Swissôtel. Gerald, who is Chef Jimmy’s partner in this venture, decided to team up with him to make gourmet steak dishes more readily available and affordable to Singaporeans.

At just $27.00, the Beef Wellington comes as a 180-gram tenderloin coated in a red wine mushroom duxelle (finely chopped) and wrapped in a puff pastry shell. Chef Jimmy adds a piece of pan seared foie gras into the Wellington as well. This is a non-traditional inclusion. He slices the Wellington down the middle to reveal the pink beef in the centre. As with most tenderloins, the meat had less marbling (fat content) but remained deliciously tender and juicy. However, some might find that the beef is too rare for their liking. As Chef Jimmy told us that this is how it is normally served, I suggest you request for more doneness if you do not like your beef too rare.


Chef Jimmy also recommended their Marinated New Zealand Lamb Cutlets ($24.50). Meet 4 Meat uses its own ‘secret’ proprietary blend for the lamb’s marinade. The dish comes with a generous serving of lamb and a sweet balsamic glaze. I was impressed by the quality of the meat – the lamb had just the right level of fat content. Therefore, the lamb remained moist which made for a palatable bite. It had a caramelised char which gave it a touch of smokiness. However, I was unable to taste much of the marinade. The meat did taste quite gamy, but that gaminess was balanced by the sweet and acidic balsamic glaze drizzled on the plate.


At just $9.00, this Carbonara comes topped with parmesan cheese and fresh herbs.

Will try this lamb chops. Difficult to find delicious lamb chops.
